RESUMO
A escala mundial, la electrocirugía no es ampliamente utilizada en el ámbito odontológico, lo cual se puede deber al uso del láser y al desconocimiento asociado a la técnica; cabe destacar que este tipo de procedimientos no se suele enseñar en la mayoría de las facultades de Odontología. Además, aunado a lo anterior, tanto los oponentes como los defensores de la electrocirugía han presentado estudios clínicos e informes contradictorios, que pueden disuadir al odontólogo a emplear dicha técnica. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este artículo es ahondar en el conocimiento actual de la electrocirugía en la Odontología; asimismo, se pretende ilustrar la información con un caso clínico. De esta forma, se concluye que la electrocirugía es una herramienta auxiliar en Odontología; donde sus aplicaciones dependerán directamente de la habilidad, la destreza y los conocimientos del operador, tanto de los principios de la técnica como de la estructura y el funcionamiento de los tejidos donde se aplica, pero los criterios adecuados son importantes para saber cuándo se puede recurrir o no a esta medida terapéutica, considerándola como un complemento y no como un método que se pueda aplicar para resolver todos los casos clínicos.
At the global level, electrosurgery is not widely used in the dental field, which may be due to the use of the laser and the lack of knowledge associated with the technique; it hould be noted that such procedures are not usually taught in most dental schools. In addition, to the above, both opponents and defenders of electrosurgery have presented clinical studies and conflicting reports that may dissuade the dentist from using this technique. Therefore, the aim of this article is to delve into the current knowledge of electrosurgery in dentistry; likewise, it is intended to illustrate the information with a clinical case. In this way, it is concluded that electrosurgery is an auxiliary tool in dentistry; where their applications will depend directly on the skills, and knowledge of the operator, both the principles of the technique and the structure and functioning of the tissues where it is applied, being important, the appropriate criteria to know when can resort to this therapeutic measure or not, considering it as a complement and not as a method that can be applied to resolve all clinical cases.
